Overview

The Value Orientations (VO) reflects an individuals’ world view, their assumptions about life and how they establish priorities.  In essence it profiles their value system and provides people with insight into the dynamics of their own moral compass. The questionnaire is based on the ‘Spiral Dynamics Theory’ of Claire Graves, Don Beck and Christopher Cowan including comments on this model by a number of authors.  The VO asssesses people against seven orientations: -

When coping with the increasing demands and pressures of work people often become unaware of the value system they use to perceive and understand the world and make decisions.  This can lead to inflexibility, conflict, or a loss of ethical and moral standards.  The VO enables people to understand and appreciate their own worldview, the worldviews of others, and the value of diversity. It also enables people to identify what it is that gives personal meaning and purpose to their work, the source of their energy for work, and the root of the authenticity in their leadership.

The VO uses a sound theoretical basis anchored in the work of leading researchers in the psychology of values, consciousness and culture.  With its non-transparent structure and content the VO is not easily manipulated consequently provides an accurate indication of both the strengths and weaknesses associated with a person’s profile and their likely stress related behaviour.  The VO is web-based and applicable in culturally diverse environments.
